Acupuncture is far more than simply a modality for pain relief. It stimulates the body’s own healing mechanisms and supports overall physical and emotional wellbeing.
• Supports natural healing & balance
• Relieves pain & muscle tension
• Improves circulation
At its most fundamental level, disease is believed to occur when the body is out of balance. Veterinary acupuncture aims to restore this balance, thereby supporting the body’s ability to heal itself naturally. As such, acupuncture may also be used as a form of preventative medicine to help maintain overall health and wellness.
Depending on the patient’s condition and the owner’s preferences, acupuncture may be used alongside conventional western medicine (commonly referred to as “complementary therapy”) or as a standalone treatment modality(known as “alternative therapy”).
For patients that are needle-shy, highly sensitive, fearful, or anxious, acupuncture may be performed non-invasively using laser.
• Needle-free & for anxious patients
• Reduces inflammation
• Promotes healing & cell repair
As no needles are involved, laser acupuncture can be particularly useful in patients with coagulopathies or compromised immune systems, where bleeding or localised infection at needle sites may be a concern. The main limitation of laser acupuncture is that treatment sessions may take longer compared to traditional needle acupuncture.
Photobiomodulation or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)
Besides acupuncture, LLLT can also be used to boost the body's natural regenerative processes by stimulating the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP); thereby helping to hasten cell repair. In addition, LLLT promotes the production of stem cells, growth factors, and nitric oxide (NO), which collectively help decrease inflammation, supports pain relief, improve blood circulation, and enhance wound healing.
Tuning Fork Therapy is a form of sound and vibrational therapy that uses calibrated tuning forks to produce specific frequencies and vibrations. Depending on how the forks are applied, the therapy may help promote relaxation, support pain relief, and improve emotional and mental wellbeing by reducing stress and anxiety.
This gentle, safe, and non-invasive therapy may be used alongside acupuncture or laser therapy as part of a holistic approach to support the body’s natural healing processes. However, tuning fork therapy may not be suitable for all patients. It should generally be avoided in pregnant patients, directly over tumours or fractures, in patients with a history of seizures (unless used with caution and veterinary guidance), and immediately following surgery.
The Gunalight is a device that uses full spectrum light to input energy into the body, thus restoring balance; and ultimately enhancing the patient’s well-being.
